For starters... A stun gun is a small handheld device that
takes the energy from a simple battery, and through
a set of capacitors, increases that energy to

scientific principle...
It's not
rocket science... It's biology 101
To put it in simple-easy-to-understand language...
The voltage from a
stun gun causes some instant pain at the point of
contact... This is because you're giving the
person an electrical shock.
But even more
important, stun gun technology uses a high-voltage
current to override the body's muscle-triggering
mechanisms.
You see, in order for us to move
our bodies, our brain sends electrical impulses
back and forth to our muscles. One electrical
impulse causes our muscles to contract, and the
release of that electricity causes our
muscles to relax.
The voltage
from a stun gun interrupts the electrical impulses
that control voluntary muscle movement. They give a very rapid electrical pulse, directly to the muscle.
This rapid
work cycle causes your attackers muscles to contract
and release very quickly, and their muscles
start twitching uncontrollably.
The resulting muscle spasms overwhelm your
attacker’s entire neuromuscular system by sending electrical impulses
back to their brain (telling it to slow down a bit). When their
brain receives too many return signals
in a very short time (we're talking split seconds
here) your attacker becomes confused and
disoriented.
This rapid work cycle also
depletes your attacker’s blood sugar by converting
it to lactic acid. He is unable to produce energy
for his muscles, and his body is unable to function
properly. A few more split seconds of contact and
your attackers body and mind become
completely exhausted, and he (or she) drops to the ground.
And since stun guns work on high voltage, but very
low amperage...The electricity dissipates
within your attackers muscles, so you will NOT
receive a shock back even if your attacker is
holding on to you.
The effects from a stun gun are temporary and non lethal... They
usually last about 5 to 10 minutes, giving you
plenty of time to get away. When it comes to
self defense
products, stun guns are one of the more
effective non lethal self defense weapons.
So what's the downside to stun guns?
Well nothing's perfect, and stun devices do have
some limitations. Unfortunately, stun devices do not
work very well through certain types of clothing.
They will work quite effectively through
multiple layers of cloth clothing (denim, flannel
shirts, multiple layers of t-shirts and jackets) But
they won't work very well through rubber raincoats
or very thick leather jackets.
On the plus side, stun guns will work nearly
anywhere on the body. So if your attacker is
wearing a rubber rain coat or a heavy leather
jacket, you can still zap them on the leg, or any
other exposed area, and it will still drop them like
a bad habit.
